The Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) certification recognizes the knowledge and skill consultants need to meet the expectations of athletes, coaches, and non-sport performers (e.g., performing artists, military personnel, business executives). CMPCs have completed specialized education, engaged in applied training, passed a rigorous exam, adhere to a code of ethics, and commit to ongoing professional development to remain current on best practices. Administered by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), the CMPC is the only, nationally accredited certification for mental performance professionals. Third-party accreditation recognizes quality certification programs built on national standards and best practices. CMPCs make a difference by helping athletes and performers reduce performance anxiety, improve concentration and communication, build confidence, and set goals.

To put it simply, virtual care technology saves athletes time and money. Currently, 76 percent of U.S. hospitals connect with patients and consulting practitioners at a distance through the use of video and other technology. As with any training plan, results will vary from one individual to another depending on the degree of an athlete’s struggles and his/her commitment to improvement. Mental skills should be viewed similarly to physical and/or technical skills improvement – success is dependent upon effort. That said, many athletes will see an improvement within the first session.

Only licensed mental health practitioners, such as clinical or counseling psychologists, can provide treatment for mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, substance use, and eating disorders. Requirements for providing psychological services are determined by individual state and provincial licensing boards. Certified Mental Performance Consultants® (CMPC) are nationally-accredited individuals who help athletes manage mental aspects of their performance including, but not limited to, setting goals, building confidence, increasing motivation, improving concentration, and reducing performance anxiety. Restoic does not directly offer mental health services, so any athlete presenting mental health conditions will be referred out to a qualified professional.
